Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald Kennedy (July 22, 1890 – January 22, 1995) was an influential American philanthropist and socialite, who served as the matriarch of the prominent Kennedy family. Born into a politically active family in Boston, her father, John F. Fitzgerald, held significant political positions, including serving as Mayor of Boston and in the U.S. House of Representatives. She married Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., who had a distinguished career in public service, including roles as the chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
