Andy Samuel Griffith (June 1, 1926 – July 3, 2012) was an American actor, musician, singer and television producer. Griffith was best known for his starring role in The Andy Griffith Show as Deputy Barney Fife from 1960 until 1968. His first major role in film was as the lead character in Elia Kazan's Face In The Crowd (1957), for which he received a BAFTA award nomination.
